Resort mosquito control your guests won't notice

Biological, targeted and safe for guests, pets and pollinators. No smell, no technician beside the pool.

SMF provides biological mosquito control for resorts and hotels in Dallas-Fort Worth by releasing sterile male mosquitoes that don't bite. It's precisely targeted: it affects only the two mosquito species we release. Releases happen in a quiet window you choose, by our team or your staff, and nothing touches pool decks, gardens or dining terraces, so the mosquitoes that bite at the pool and at sunset decline week by week.

What guests remember

A guest who gets bitten at dinner tells the review site. So does a guest woken by a fogging machine.

The bites. Pool decks, cabanas and terraces are where guests spend the hours mosquitoes are most active. A few bites at sunset can outweigh a great room.
The fogging. Fogging and misting come with their own complaints: engine noise, chemical odor and a technician in protective gear walking past the cabana.
The repeat visits. A spray lasts days to weeks, so the technician, the smell and the roped-off lawn come back all season. Each sterile-male release removes a generation instead.
The review. A review that mentions mosquitoes at dinner stays online long after the season ends, and future guests read it.

A program that stays backstage

Releases work around your operations calendar, so housekeeping, landscaping and F&B never have to.

  1. Early morning Your release window
  2. Midday Pool
  3. Afternoon Lunch
  4. Golden hour Sunset
  5. Evening Dinner
Quiet releases. Our team releases on site, on foot, or your grounds staff open the plates themselves, about a minute per plate. Releases happen every week or two in the warm months, as your plan sets, and monthly in winter, in a window you choose. No noise, no smell, nothing to drip.
Through the shoulder season. The program runs all year, so the population can't rebuild over the cooler months and your peak season opens with fewer mosquitoes.
No closures. No re-entry times, no roped-off lawns, no rescheduled pool hours.
Built for your busiest areas. Releases are planned around the pool deck, cabanas, garden paths, event lawns and outdoor dining, where guests linger. The males also find wild females in dense landscaping and hidden containers, where sprays and traps can't reach.
One brief for your front desk. We give your team a short script in case a guest asks. The answer is a good one: "We release male mosquitoes. They don't bite, and they keep the biting ones down."

Weddings, events and group business

Outdoor events are revenue you can't afford to lose to a bad night.

Share your event calendar at the free assessment. Because the population falls over weeks, we time the first release so the program is well underway before your peak wedding and group season, then the year-round program covers every event after that. Recommended start: at least 4 weeks before a major event. Hosting a single event with no program in place? Book a call and we'll tell you straight whether we can help in time.

A sustainability story you can report

Many hotel groups now report on chemical use and biodiversity. This one gives your ESG team something concrete to say.

No insecticide on the grounds. Nothing on landscaping, lawns, pool decks or water features.
Pollinator friendly. Our males mate only with their own species. Bees, butterflies and hummingbird gardens carry on as usual.
Nothing to store or dispose of. No insecticide stock, handling or disposal for your team to track.

fewer wild female mosquitoes after six weeks Harris County, Texas study of sterile-male releases (related method). A US public program on Captiva Island, Florida, using the same method saw up to 79% fewer adult mosquitoes in its first release phase. Evidence for the method, not SMF's own results. Will guests notice the program?
Almost never. Releases are quiet, quick and scheduled in a window you pick. There's no fogging and no smell, and the males we release don't bite, so they don't bother anyone.
Can you treat around the pool and water features?
Nothing goes in the water, so pools, fountains and ponds stay open with no special handling. That's one of the main reasons resorts choose sterile males over chemical treatments.
Will guests still get bitten at late dinners?
Less often by the mosquitoes we target: the Asian tiger and yellow fever species that bite at the pool and at sunset. Night-biting mosquitoes aren't affected, so for terraces busy after dark we'll also point out drains and standing water worth fixing. Your assessment shows which species you have.
Is it safe for guests' children and pets?
Yes. Nothing is applied where children swim or pets walk. The CDC says irradiated mosquitoes can't make people or animals sick.1
Can we do a one-time treatment before a wedding?
Not effectively. The population falls over weeks, so a release the day before won't help. A year-round program started at least 4 weeks before a major event covers every event on the calendar.
Do you work with hotel groups with several properties?
Yes. Our multi-site program covers several DFW properties under one agreement, with one point of contact for every site.
