Biological mosquito control for your market

Senecio's proven technology, SMF's Dallas operation and a program to launch in your market.

AI vision sorting conveyor in the lab
SMF is a US biological mosquito control company based in Dallas, Texas, releasing sterile male mosquitoes on technology from Senecio, which makes AI sorting and release systems for the sterile insect technique. We serve Dallas-Fort Worth directly and partner with pest-control operators, mosquito control districts and developers in other US markets.

Our technology partner: Senecio

Senecio builds the machines that make sterile males practical at scale: sorting, sterilizing, packing and releasing.

The sterile insect technique (SIT) has worked for decades, but separating males from females by hand kept it slow and expensive. Senecio, based in Israel, automated that step.

AI sorting. A robotic conveyor moves adult mosquitoes past cameras, and AI vision sorts males from females by their anatomy. Senecio reports speeds of hundreds of mosquitoes per second.1
Sterilization. Sorted males receive a measured X-ray dose that makes them sterile without stopping them from mating. The males are not genetically modified. In DFW, SMF does this in-house.
Release systems. Senecio's systems pack males into cartridges and release them by hand, by vehicle, by drone or by aircraft, depending on the area.1 In DFW, SMF's programs use a release plate. On commercial sites, our team or the property's own staff release them.
Planning and monitoring. Software maps release routes, and an AI trap system identifies mosquito species from images.1

Proven in municipal programs abroad

Senecio's systems already serve cities, communities and homes in Israel.

  • Rentokil partnership. After a 2023 pilot, Rentokil Israel (Rentokil Initial) signed a commercial agreement with Senecio for the 2024 season.1
  • 7 municipalities in 2024. Together they served Modi'in, Zichron Yaakov, Atlit, Be'er Yaakov and three other communities.2
  • Growing city programs. Kfar Saba, Petah Tikva and other cities have used the program in parks, kindergartens and public gardens.3
  • Community feedback. Managers at two kibbutzim reported far fewer mosquito complaints within about 2 months of weekly releases.4
  • Backed by public research funding, including an EU Horizon 2020 grant.5

These are Senecio's programs and reports, not SMF results. For published US data on the method, see the research.

What SMF adds in the US

The technology works. Our job is running programs people trust.

A local operation. Our facility and releases across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
US regulatory groundwork. No Texas pest-control license required, per the Texas Department of Agriculture. Regulation details, with sources, are on our safety page.
Field playbooks. Site assessment, release planning and customer check-ins for venues, HOAs, resorts, farms, golf courses and homes.
Go-to-market support. Customer materials and messaging for commercial, residential and municipal buyers.

FAQ

Can my pest-control company offer sterile male mosquito releases?
Yes, through our partner program. We provide sterile males, training and field playbooks so you can add a chemical-free, biological program to your existing services. Book a call to check availability in your market.
What does Senecio do?
Senecio is an Israeli technology company that automates the sterile insect technique. Its AI vision sorts male from female mosquitoes, and its systems sterilize, pack and release the males. SMF uses Senecio technology in the US.
Is SMF part of Senecio?
No. SMF is an independent US company. Senecio is our technology partner. No customer or lead data is shared with Senecio.
Which markets are you looking at?
We serve Dallas-Fort Worth directly and work with partners in other US markets with long mosquito seasons.
Do sterile male mosquitoes work in every region?
The method targets the species released. SMF releases the container-breeding Aedes mosquitoes common across the southern US, the Asian tiger and yellow fever mosquitoes. We review the species mix in your area before any pilot.
