Sterile mosquito control in Frisco

Biological mosquito control for Frisco yards, new builds and established neighborhoods alike.

SMF offers Frisco homes and properties sterile male mosquito releases: biological control, chemical-free and safe for kids, pets and pollinators. It works alongside the city's testing program, on the daytime biters breeding around homes.

SMF's releases target the biters in yards by day and at dusk (Asian tiger and yellow fever mosquitoes). They don't affect night-biting mosquitoes.

Frisco keeps adding green space. Grand Park, which broke ground in 2026, will eventually stretch about 1,000 acres toward Lewisville Lake. Frisco on the Green, a 27-acre park along Teel Parkway, is built around preserved wetlands with a boardwalk; the city approved its construction contracts in August 2026. More water and canopy is great for residents, and it also means drainage swales, patio pots and corners nobody checks.

Frisco tests mosquitoes from May 1 through November 15 and posts results on its GIS Mosquito Dashboard. When a sample comes back positive, a city contractor sprays a half-mile to one-mile radius on two consecutive nights, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The city posts notices before each spray. A sterile male program in your yard works alongside it.

Four steps to fewer mosquitoes

1 Raise and sort We raise mosquitoes and remove the females, using AI vision from our technology partner, Senecio. Only males move on.
2 Sterilize We sterilize the males with X-rays in-house, the last step before they leave our facility.
3 Release A release plate arrives twice a month in the warm months and one a month in winter. Follow the instructions and open it in your yard. It takes about a minute.
4 Enjoy You should start to feel the difference within 7 to 14 days.
Why it works: wild females mate once. When one mates with a sterile male, her eggs don't hatch. Each generation is smaller than the last, until the population collapses. How it works →

What public programs have measured

Evidence for the method, not SMF's own results.

Six weeks in Texas 93% fewer wild female mosquitoes after six weeks in a Harris County, Texas study (related method).1
First phase in Florida 79% fewer adult mosquitoes and 59% fewer eggs in the first release phase, compared with an untreated island.2
A district in California 44% / 65% fewer female mosquitoes: 44% with sterile males alone, 65% combined with larvicide stations.3

FAQ: Frisco

Where can I see mosquito activity in Frisco?
The city's GIS Mosquito Dashboard shows where positive samples were found during the testing season.
Is a sterile male program safe for a Frisco family with young kids?
Yes. Nothing is applied to grass, play sets or pools, and the males we release can't bite.
When is mosquito season in Frisco?
The city tests from May 1 through November 15, which tracks the active season well. Programs start anytime of year; starting before the summer build-up gives a head start, and winter releases carry it through to spring.
Does a new-build Frisco yard still get mosquitoes?
Yes. Irrigation, drainage swales and patio pots are all breeding spots, and they start the first summer.
